Short Thoughts Tonight

Sometimes we take Scripture out of context.  Sometimes those of us who legitimately care about what Scripture means end up throwing our hands up and not even using certain verses anymore, because they have been taken out of context so many times.  But sometimes these Scriptures smack us right in the face and reach something deep within our souls.

Psalm 37:3-4 "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (NIV).

Philippians 3:12-14 "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (NIV).

I'm not a quitter by any stretch of the imagination, but there are moments when it's tempting.  Usually, just about that time, someone comes along and says, "keep going."  Today was like that.
