Genesis
37:8b "And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he
had said" (NIV).
Wow, there must be some context to
that! There is. Go read the entire story of Joseph. It will be worth your time. But this little piece of Scripture has me
thinking...
Often, God places dreams in our hearts. They may not be as obvious as the dreams we
read about in Scripture. They may not
come with fitful sleep or angels or desperation for interpretation. But God still gives us dreams.
Often, these dreams are met with the same kind of resistance
that Joseph felt from his family.
Often, the road we take is nothing like we thought it would
be.
This image? Yep, that
about sums it up:
But we have to keep dreaming.
A friend of mine recently asked the question, "If there
was nothing holding you back, what would you do?" This is an excellent question. How often do we step back and let a dream
slip through our fingers because it is simply too difficult, too controversial,
too impossible? This is not to say that
we should just do whatever we want all the time, but I think Augustine was onto
something:
"Love God and do
whatever you please: for the soul trained in love to God will do nothing to
offend the One who is Beloved" -Saint Augustine
Go. Dream up some
really big stuff with God, and then go do it!
Speaking to myself here...
Psalm
52:9 "For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of
your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name
is good" (NIV).
Collaborative dreaming... collaborative
being... I think that works...
